Technology Investment Funds

Fleming takes the Euro-tech route

Fund managers Fleming has continued on the technology trail with the addition of a European Technology sub-fund to its Luxembourg umbrella, Flagship. Fleming says it’s the first fund to specialise purely in European tech stocks.

Technology Investment Funds & James Elliot

It says that the fund, managed by James Elliot and Ajay Gambhir, focuses on the “most dynamic and innovative companies in the telecommunications sector and other infrastructure facilitators, e-commerce enablers, and technology content and commerce providers”.

According to the firm’s head of European equities, Andrew Spencer: “Europe is the world’s biggest GDP zone. In the US, technology sectors represent 29 per cent of the total market capitalisation. This ratio stood at 15 per cent as recently as 1990. In Europe, technology still only accounts for 16 per cent of total market capitalisation, but then internet penetration is three to four years behind the USA.”

Technology Investment Funds - Europe

The fund concentrates on Europe for two reasons. Firstly, Fleming already has US, Japan and Pacific tech funds. Secondly, Fleming believes there are more opportunities in Europe than on a global basis. Minimum investment in the new sub-fund is $5,000 or equivalent. Charges are 5 per cent initial; 1.5 per cent annual; with a 0.5 per cent redemption fee.
