Alliance Trust has announced that it has appointed Ilario Di Bon as its head of global equities. Ilario, who has over 10 years' experience in the management of global equities, will join Alliance Trust on 01 July.

Prior to joining Alliance Trust, Ilario was head of institutional global equities at Fidelity International, where he, alongside a team of sector specialists, managed Fidelity's Global Opportunities fund, which grew from $250 million to over $1billion of assets under management in under two years. During his time at Fidelity, the fund received a Morningstar Superior rating and was awarded Asian Investor Global Equity Fund of the Year 2010.
Ilario previously spent almost eight years at UBS Global Asset Management, working in both London and Japan, and he held a number of senior roles in global and Japanese equities before being promoted to lead portfolio manager, Global Equities, in 2005.
Commenting on the appointment, Katherine Garrett-Cox, chief executive of Alliance Trust, said: "This is a great appointment for Alliance Trust. Ilario brings a wealth of experience in the development and management of global equity portfolios and we look forward to drawing on the industry expertise he has gained over the last 10 years as we continue to refocus Alliance Trust back to investing in equities on an unconstrained and long term basis”.

Ilario di Bon commented: "Alliance Trust offers a fantastic opportunity to lead and grow a global portfolio, both for the Trust and for Alliance Trust Asset Management. Katherine has introduced some significant improvements to the business over the past three years and I am looking forward to working with her, and the investment team, to develop a differentiated offering in the sector".
